« We endeavour to produce gastronomic wines that age well and transparently express the terroir and vintages with finesse and complexity. »
Domaine des Prés Lasses produced its first vintage in 1999, the year two friends with a passion for wine bought a few plots of old Faugères vines and established their winery in the village of Autignac. After a career in wine-making and wine distribution, Denis Feigel, was fulfilling his dream of starting his own wine estate. His son, Boris has been its technical director since 2005.
Domaine des Prés Lasses now comprises over 30 ha of vineyards, with 26.5 ha in production including many old vines, and notably 7 ha of Carignan. The vineyards are farmed organically. We focus on preserving the soil’s vitality and the vineyard’s natural balance, which in turn safeguard the character of our wines.
The Faugères vineyards lie in the last rugged foothills of the Cévennes Mountains, north of Béziers. It is a small appellation grown on a terroir of schist; a poor, well-draining soil. The vines’ roots are forced to delve deep down to extract the nutrients that define these great wines.
Our grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. We use traditional, minimal intervention winemaking techniques. A part from a small dose of sulphur, we use no wine additives and usually bottle without fining or filtration. Our wines are matured for 18 to 24 months in rough concrete vats and oak barrels, of which only a small proportion are new casks. We endeavour to produce gastronomic wines that age well and transparently express the terroir and vintages with finesse and complexity.
